Eastern Christian Formation
Adult Education
Our ECF program is so excited to share with you our many CATECHETICAL RESOURCES for the renewal of our Eastern Churches and for your personal formation!
- Our Church Library is available FOR ALL to help in your on-going formation (Please see our Church Store and Library page).
- Adult formation programs will be announced as they are planned.
As the harvesters of the Lord’s vineyard, it is our duty to be educated and well-informed of our Eastern Catholic faith in order to build up the Kingdom of God and to grow in our own personal relationship with the Most Holy Trinity. Our parish Eastern Christian Formation program seeks to nurture an encounter with God that leads each of us into a deepening communion with Him.
Youth ECF Classes
“There is no greater calling than the education of our youth in the faith.” ~ St. John Chrysostom
On October 11, 1953, St. George Byzantine Catholic Church was the first Church in the Archeparchy, then Byzantine Catholic Diocese, of Pittsburgh to be established with a “Decree of Erection of Confraternity of Christian Doctrine” (CCD). We continue that tradition with our Eastern Christian Formation (ECF). The ECF program of St. George Church encompasses religious education, spirituality, liturgical worship, service, and extra-curricular activities. From the original certificate:
“Go out into the highways and hedges, and make them come in, so that my house may be filled.”
Luke 14:23
We are here to support your decision to share the Christian way of life with your child/children. Your child’s religious path began at Baptism, is continued at home, and will be nourished and strengthened through our Eastern Christian Formation program. Our catechists are offered training from the Office of Religious Education of the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh. We utilize the “God With Us” series incorporated with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd method in the primary-intermediate level and “Christ Our Pascha” catechism in the middle-high school level.
2021/2022 Youth ECF, to be announced
Youth classes are typically in session weekly following Sunday Divine Liturgy, for one hour of instruction in our spacious classrooms each of which has an age appropriate activity area in which the children can socialize. Classes are for ages 3 through high school seniors.

We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might … to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. (Colossians 1:9-12)
